Milk tea, anyone?

Still scared to order milk tea?
Here’s a milk tea house that will bring back your love for this yummy, yummy health drink.

One of the most exciting milk tea houses in the Metro, Tea Monkey not only serve tea, it also boasts its authentic Japanese Tamayaki that will surely satisfy your taste buds.

They have a wider drink selection compared to competitors.
Must try: Tea Monkey Special and Green tea with yakult.

Tamayaki comes in three variants. Charlie Chimp (original), Gorilla George (sweet and spicy), King Kong (with wasabi sauce). If you are as bold as I am when it comes to food, you will definitely love.

They also have hunger busters for those with bigger appetite.
Chicken fillet sandwich served with Jap mayo, lettuce, onions, tomato and ciabatta bread.
For rice lovers, you can opt for chicken fillet or pork belly with rice. Both come with 3 flavors: black pepper, honey and cumin.

Not too hungry? Try their crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside, quaffle with your choice of flavor and designer dip.

The selection was so good we went back to try some of their dishes on the menu. I ordered King kong but was served with Charlie Chimp which was quite disappointing because I only crave for a spicy Tamayaki. The staff said “nakalimutan po kasi na King kong order nyo, eto nalang po yung wasabi sauce, Masarap din naman po yan.”
Yes, no apology was given.
I was not even given a choice whether to accept or not what she incorrectly prepared for me.

Miguel on the other hand, was satisfied with his pork belly.

Overall, I will give Tea Monkey a 4 out of five stars. The other star goes to customer service improvement.

Visit Tea Monkey at the Ground Floor of SM Hypermarket, Frontera Verde Drive, Ugong Norte, Pasig City.

Planet Grapes: Wine without the Drama

Planet Grapes opened it’s EDSA Shangri-la branch last February and since gained a number of patrons. Who wouldn’t love Planet Grapes?

They carry state-of-the-art Italian enomatic machines that allow customers to try different wines by sip, half-glass, and full glass sizes. Yes! It’s a wine vendo. You get to try their wine before you decide to buy a bottle.
Aside from that, they offer an adventurous menu containing foods that perfectly pair with wine. You’ll be surprised because the food that they offer are not commonly associated with wine. I love the ambiance and their interior. Black always has this classy appeal to me.

I was privileged to be invited by Zomato to try out Planet Grapes’ food and wine and to start off, we were served with Chicharon with Tinapa dip.

Yes, you read it right. It’s not mustard but tinapa dip. The tinapa dip gave a yummy twist to our usual chicharon that we are used to dip in vinegar. The dip is also a bit sour. The more dip, the better tasting your chicharon will be. Ever paired chicharon with wine? I did! A glass of Paul Mas Sauvignon Blanc 2012 came with this appetizer and I must say, it’s a match made in heaven.

I am really a fan of Bopis especially when it’s spicy. But I like it with rice tho. Pircas Negras Malbec 2013 was paired with this dish. Well, meat equals to red wine, I’m not really surprised but I really, really love their Bopis and I promise to come back for this.

The chicken BBQ that was served to us were a bit over cooked and some parts were no longer edible because uhm, they already look and tastes like charcoal.

Organic BBQ Pork Spare ribs. Looks good and tastes even better. I am intrigued on how they made this meat so succulent that it literally melts in your mouth. You can choose between mashed potato or adobo rice for this dish. I suggest that you go for adodo rice! Folie a Deux Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 both worked for chicken BBQ and BBQ spare ribs but I didn’t have the courage to finish a glass because the staff said, their going to serve another wine variant.

Dessert! My favorite part. We were served with a dessert platter and Urban Old Vines 2013 to cap the night off.

Turon trilogy is a local dessert made of thinly sliced bananas and ube then drizzled with Langka Caramel sauce. This definitely is a must-try.

Creme Brulee. These were steamed not baked and it comes with three different flavors: Banana. Classic, and Durian. Surprisingly, I find the Durian flavor the yummiest because it’s not too sweet.

Here’s a tip from Planet Grapes for wine virgins.
How to drink wine:
SEE. Observe the color of the wine.
SWIRL. expose wine to air; “breathe”
SMELL. identify the different aromas
SIP. taste the flavor of the wine
SPIT/SWALLOW

Oasis and Waterside in a Desert full of Cards

Hi guys!

If you’re looking for a place to welcome 2015, Solaire Resort has something in store for you.
Last December 17, I attended Solaire’s Tea Hat Party at it’s newly opened Oasis Garden Cafe. It’s bird nest interior and glass roof gave me a relaxing vibe that I forgot about my two hour travel from Ortigas to Solaire. The freshly brewed tea and traditional snacks calmed my senses.
Everything tastes good and are undeniably picture perfect.

Here’s a gallery of what to expect at the newly opened Oasis Garden Cafe.

This fancy cafe also offers a full complement of cocktails and drinks served with the usual Solaire panache at night time.

Solaire also opened Waterside Restobar, an all-day dining restaurant that serves Latin American and Mediterranean specialties and features a unique ensemble of show kitchens, which includes a paella cooking station, churrascaria, rotisserie, and tapas bar.

The restobar opening was hosted by the beautiful Kim Jones and a number of world class local performers entertained us from the start until we finished our dinner.

I was in awe when I saw the beautiful interior of Waterside Restobar. Everything looks chic and clean. I am also amazed to see chefs prepare our dishes.

Sharing with you photos of the dishes that were served to us. I hope I make your tummies growl. LOL!

Tapas
Sardinallas

Perfectly cooked fish meat in olive oil, topped with crusty bread.

banderillas

Olive, piquilo and garlic made with love. This is one of my favorites. I like how these three blended.

Boquorones

I don’t know with you guys but for me, eggs and aoli are match made in heaven! Softly cooked eggs are just perfect.

Jabugo

Bread topped with ham, pineapple and blue cheese.

Paella

Valenciana

The classic saffron spiced paella with chicken, prawns and pimiento served in a miniature casserole. Not only that it’s super yummy but it’s also too cute that I couldn’t resist posting it on Instagram.

From the Grill

A platter served with Beef Brisket, Crack Back Chicken, Jumbo Prawns and Inihaw na Liempo…definitely the star of the night. The huge platter needs a wide-angle lens.

Co-Stars

Asparagus (lemon, goat milk)
Crushed (scruffed carbonara potatoes)
Humita (sweetcorn baked in husk)

Sweets

pineapple with ravioli, chili and sorbet

chocolate tart with raspberry jelly

Either you come here to play, dine or check in at their hotel, you’ll come home carrying a smile after creating a wonderful moment at Solaire Resort.

This 2015, bring your family and friends to Solaire Resort and delight them with a posh afternoon tea gathering at Oasis Garden Cafe or a sumptuous lunch or dinner at the exquisite Waterside Restobar.

Forget about your diet first. Tis the season to be jolly and fat!
Thank you for dropping by.

Christmas Tree Lighting at Richmonde Hotel Ortigas

We were invited to witness Richmonde Ortigas’ Christmas Tree lightning event last November 20, 2014. Unfortunately, Miguel wasn’t able to join me.

I have been to Richmonde Hotel at Eastwood City and aside from their bigger reception area and chandelier, nothing much differs them from the one in Ortigas when it comes to customer service.

Before the event started, we had a short hotel tour. I fell in love with their indoor pool and day dreamed of holding a private party. It’s also perfect for those who wish to swim but maintain their gluta-white skin.

Amongst the 3 rooms that we visited, I personally love their two-bedroom suite where guests can accept visitors and cook their own meals. Good for a whole family who’d love to experience the luxury living that Richmonde Hotel Ortigas offers.

Looking forward for some happy hour this sweater weather?

Drink all the local beers, featured cocktail drinks, iced tea, or soda you can, with matching tasty bar chow to boot! Priced at only PhP 535nett per person.
Available Mondays to Fridays, except holidays, from 6pm to 9pm at The Exchange.
But make sure to make an early reservation specially during Fridays.

Are you a foodie?

Have a hearty and delectable kick-off to the weekend! Savor enticing offerings at the buffet spread at a very affordable PhP 695nett per person.
Served every Friday from 6pm to 9pm at the Richmonde Café. Children 6 to 12 years get 50% off and those 5 years old and below get to eat for free.

It was a quick yet worthy hotel tour. We headed back to the lounge for the much awaited Christmas tree lighting. We were even entertained by the hotel’s Executive Chef and shortly after, serenaded by one of their staff after the lighting activity which by the way was very lovely and quite exclusive since there were only six bloggers including myself who joined the hotel’s staff along with some of their guests.

Every dish that were served to us was good. But I kinda reserved my tummy’s space for the pastries.

I had tasted too many pastries that I could hardly recall which one is better that the other. The cinnamon donut, choco fudge and their chocolate cakes were my picks. Their Oreo Mint cake is yummy but I find it too minty like you just brushed your teeth.

Here’s a tip: Prices of all the yummy baked goodies at the Lobby Café are slashed 40% thirty (30) minutes before closing time.

Available Mondays to Fridays, from 6:30pm to 7pm; and Saturdays & Sundays, from 3:30pm to 4pm. First come, first served.

Richmonde Hotel Ortigas is located at 21 San Miguel Avenue, Ortigas Center, Pasig City 1600 Metro Manila, Philippines

Binge on Meat at Big D’s Smokehouse

For meat lovers like myself, you will definitely love Big D’s Smokehouse.
I got to try their best sellers during Comedy Cartel’s Laugh and Stack Leg 15 which happened last Saturday, November 7, 2014.

Big D’s Eastwood branch just opened last August and had been making it big since then. I’ve been hearing a lot about their ribs and was really excited to try it for myself. If you’re on instagram, do search for #ribsthatrock and drool!

One of the owners, Chef Dino welcomed us with their house blended iced tea while we were waiting for our food to be served. I rarely get the chance to meet restaurant owners during reviews/food tasting and I was really grateful that Chef Dino spent some time with us (their staff are not so friendly but could improve in the long run).

Appetizers.

Hush Puppies – Php175
Chef Dino said, this recipe is originally from his mom that he had recreated.
I love the combination of cheese and garlic sauce and the roasted pimiento inside just made this appetizer extra special.

Start Up Nachos – Duo Php150, Platter Php250
Big D’s version of the most ordered appetizer is just amazing. I love that they used pulled pork instead of the usual grilled pork or beef. The Taco Shells are super thin too and tastes great.

House Specials.

Baked Chicken – Php230.
Perfectly cooked and perfectly plated dish. This could feed two people because of it’s hefty serving.

Ribs – Solo Php 230, Duo Php 390
One of the best tasting ribs I’ve ever tried. I prefer eating it without the sauce.

Twice Fried Ribs – Half Slab Php380, Full Slab Php495

I haven’t tasted a twice fried ribs until I dined at Big D’s. It’s perfectly cooked and having vinegar as its dip is just superb. More of a Filipino dish for me. I would say that if it’s not cheap, then it’s fairly priced.

This one’s not yet on the menu and Chef Dino has yet to decide what to name this dish. We’re so luck to be one of the few people who got to taste this first. It’s really good and the meat was perfectly cooked. If this would be the serving size, then it could feed 2-3 persons.

Big D’s is located at 2/F Citywalk 2 (directly above Starbucks), Eastwood City, Quezon City.

Eat Chops The Tomahawk Way

Zomato organized a Foodie Meet-up at Tomahawk, Kapitolyo last Wednesday. Because it was just a stone-throw away from my office, I attended the meet-up and walked away with a happy heart and tummy.

Tomahawk just opened last June 2014 and has been getting a lot of good feedback since then. When I entered the restaurant, I thought it was pretty small but I didn’t realized that it has a second level until one of the waiters led me to our table. Tomahawk has a nice interior and cool frames with quotations that will bring in some good vibes. It’s perfect for team buildings and small gatherings as they can accommodate up to 50 pax.

It was my first time to attend Zomato’s foodie meet-up and I liked how they do it. Before the much awaited food tasting, we were given the chance to get to know our fellow foodies. Everyone has to do a short introduction about their selves and that made us comfortable. Wouldn’t it be nice to dine with people whom you know?

To start of, we were served with five appetizers.
I personally love their buffalo wings which was perfectly cooked. I didn’t have to dip it because it was already good on its own.

Buffalo Wings, Php 180

Among all the chops that were served to us, my top pick is Grilled Tomahawk Chops with Dirty Rice and Mac and cheese. They have a hefty serving which be shared by two. I hate how their dirty rice can ruin one’s diet. It was extremely good!

Grilled Tomahawk chops, Php295 ( Go Dirty Rice option plus Php25)

Their Grilled hanger steak with wine sauce was the star of the night. This is not yet included on their menu but every foodie who attended the meet-up approved that this should be served at Tomahawk ASAP.
I am a sucker for medium rare steak so, this is definitely what I am going to order on my next visit. I think I can eat their steak on a daily basis. Haha! I was so happy when we had another round of Hanger Steak.

Hanger Steak, price not yet available

Well, aside from the Grilled Tomahawk chops, I bet my husband will love their Grilled Rosemary Chicken with Dirty rice and Mashed potatoes. Rosemary blended well with their chicken.

Grilled Rosemary Chicken, Php215 (Go Dirty rice option, plus Php25)

Also a must-try is Tomahawk’s Sausage and Sauerkraut with a big serving of fries. I am not really a fan of sausages but their sausage is just too good to resist.

Sausage and Sauerkraut,Php215

Match any of their dishes with Peach Iced Tea Carafes or any of their imported beers for a more delightful experience.

There were a lot of dishes that were served to us, but the dishes that I have mentioned are the ones that I highly recommend. Visit this resto soon to know how to enjoy food #TheTomahawkWay!

Mega Food Tour 2.0

Mega Mall is one of our favorite Shopping destinations in the metro. Aside from the vicinity, this mall has a lot to offer. Specially for foodies like us. We’re lucky to be part of the last Mega Food tour for  the year and dining with 9 restaurants with Anton Diaz of our Awesome Planet is a bonus.
It’s great that SM Mega Mall came up with this idea because it’s a sure way to market their new restaurants. After all, who do you trust when it comes to restaurant recommendations but foodies or bloggers.

The tour started at 5:00 PM with 18 attendees that were grouped into two to maximize the time. Sharing with you some photos of the yummy dishes that we enjoyed last September 30.

Ippudo. This is one of the most intriguing new restaurants at the Mega Fashion Hall having been dubbed as the Japanese restaurant who serves the best Ramen. We’ve always wanted to visit this Ippudo but the long line is kind of discouraging. We’re so glad that this is part of our tour. By the way, the chefs here at Ippudo are Japanese so if you’re looking for authentic Japanese food, then Ippudo is the right restaurant for you.  We love the spicy Ramen because of its rich flavor (tho we prefer it spicier).

Ippudo. 3/F Mega Fashion Hall

Linguini Fini. We loved the ambiance. It’ll make you forget that you’re actually inside a Shopping Mall. Everything looks clean at Linguini Fini. We’re both pasta lovers and we’d love to try everything on their menu! Parpadelle “Nose to Tail Bolo” is worth trying.

Linguini Fini. 3/F Mega Fashion Hall

Rosanjin. This is my favorite among the 9 restaurants that we visited.I loved everything that they served! Too bad Miguel has to leave for work and didn’t had the chance to eat at Rosanjin but we’ll definitley come back.

Rosanjin. 3/F Mega Fashion Hall

Cupcakes by Sonja.

If you’re looking for the best red velvet cupcakes, then go visit Cupcakes by Sonja at the Ground floor of the Mega Fashion Hall.

We had a short trip to Tim Ho Wan to taste their Pork Buns. I’ve tasted this before. I would say there’s nothing spectacular about this buns, or is it just me?

G/F Mega Fashion Hall

Eri Curry. This is a must try for curry lovers with big appetite! I couldn’t even finish their sampler or maybe I was just too full after visiting several restaurants. I would love to come back and challenge my self to finish a whole serving of their Katsu Curry.

Eri Curry. 3/F Mega Fashion Hall

Tripple O’s. I love their milk shake. I felt bad because I can no longer eat their sampler, good thing they offered a take-out. I got the chance to eat their sampler at work. I can’t believe their patties still taste good even after a few hours ( I ate the sampler during my lunch break ). They serve sweet potatoes instead of fries so it’s healthier and their burgers aren’t oily.

Triple-O’s. 3/F Mega Fashion Hall

I was giddy when I saw different colors of Mochi lined up at Mochi Cream Cafe. It was mouth watering. I loved everything and was even lucky enough to take home some Mochi. Everything is picture perfect and yummy. I love their drink and their Matcha Dacquoise.

Mochi Cream Cafe. 4/F Mega Fashion Hall.

Our last stop – Kool Kids. I enjoyed watching them make Nitrogen Ice cream. I was like a kid waiting for my ice cream to be served. Kids and kids at heart will surely love Kool kids. To Nutella lovers out there, you shouldn’t miss Kool kids on your next visit to Mega Fashion Hall!

Kool Kids. 5/F Mega Fashion Hall

I was extremely happy after the Food tour! I met new friends and tried different restaurants in 4 hours! Now, I know which restaurants we should revisit on our next trip to Mega Mall.

Happy Eating!
