Chronicles of a Happy Married Life

Importance of the RSVP

I remember feeling so guilty when Migs and I were not able to attend a close friend’s wedding last year. Migs was hospitalized days before our friend’s big day and it was too late for them to scratch us out of their wedding list. Although he understood our predicament, I still feel sorry because he paid for two buffet plates for us and we weren’t able to show up.

What is an  RSVP and why is it so important?

According to Forbes Magazine, Répondez s’il vous plaît, is a French phrase that translates to “please respond.” It is with this meaning that invitation cards and similar documents are often marked with “RSVP.” It is standard practice to reply to an RSVP request whether confirming attendance or declining.

Our wedding took place in Antipolo City last December 12, 2012. It was a Wednesday and we expected excuses like work schedule, meetings, etc. So, we made sure that our Wedding was announced to our relatives one year in advance and 6 months in advance for friends and colleagues. For some, they even make Save-the-date videos while finalizing stuff on their big day.  We only invited 150 guests but unfortunately, there were still some who responded to our RSVP on the same day of our Wedding despite the efforts of our Wedding coordinators. The sad part is, we still paid for their food even if they weren’t around.

These days, you pay a minimum of Php1,500 per plate for a decent food in Metro Manila event places or hotels. In receiving invites, remember that a couple thought of you first to celebrate their special day with them.  Making them feel that their invitation is not important to you by not responding to the RSVP, might leave scars on your relationships.

If you really can’t make it, let them know at least a month or two weeks before the event so, they have the option to replace you on their list or even save money. Your friends as a couple are starting their lives together and if you can’t make it because of some valid reasons or you’re simply not into events – let them know. It will only take few seconds of your time.

Remember that not responding to an RSVP is just as worst as gatecrashing a wedding.

Asia Finance Summit In The Eyes Of A BPO Employee

As a BPO employee, I am concerned with the options that I have in case the  industry goes down.
Questions like “Where do we invest our hard-earned money?”, “Did we make the right investment(s)?” and “What options do we have when we decide to retire earlier than 60?” are when Miguel and I discuss our financial plans.

Recently, we made an investment and I was glad that it was part of the Philippine Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index, 2014 as presented by Undersecretary and Chief Economist, Gil Beltran.

One of the Speakers, Ms. Riena Pama, President of Sun Life Asset Management discussed how the lack of financial inclusion and literacy may tend to pyramiding. She said that Financial Literacy begins at home and made me realize that maybe, it’s something that was lacking in most Filipino household.

Most of the speakers if not all, mentioned BPO in their talk which somehow gave me a relief that I am still in the right industry at the right time.
One of my favorite speakers on the summit, Mr. Bansan Choa, Chairman and CEO of I Remit, said that “Industry should come from the Philippines” and discussed about how remittance played a big role in the lives of OFWs saying that in every dollar that they spent, their is a percentage that is given back to them. I also believe in what he said that should be considered as an investment – retirement homes or villages. Philippines landed the top 17 in the for the most desirable retirement destinations across the globe. That being said, this will open more doors for investors and more jobs for our fellow Filipinos.

Working overseas is not an option for me but yes, it may be the best decision other people made in their lives. But whatever industry we may be in, we must always take into consideration how our chosen industry will later lead us to financial freedom which I guess everyone in the working class is dreaming of.

Rejj Sibayan, Alaine Alejandrino, Rebecca Bustamante, Grace Nicolas, Lance Bucoy

with the Panel Moderator, Kim Bernardo

The summit was a learning experience for me. I could go on and on on with the many things that I have learned from this event. I am looking forward to attending more summits organized no other that the maid who made it, Ms. Rebecca Bustamante – Chalre and Tag Media.

Asia Finance Summit: Appraising the Future of Southeast Asia was held at Makati Diamond Residences last April 21, 2015.

Sunny Side Up Bazaar

Aside from going to different summer destinations, one of the most exciting activities this time of the year is shopping!
Last March 30, I was invited to attend a Blogger’s meet-up at Paprika, Bonifacio Global City. The event was organized by Curated Goodness Ph to promote their upcoming Bazaar, Sunny Side Up.

On April 11 and 12,the Rockwell Tent in Makati City will play host to the first
ever Sunny Side Up Bazaar – a weekend dedicated to showcasing the side of Metro Manila that breeds excitement and potential. The two days will feature a powerful collection of merchants offering a wide variety of products and edible treats, a host of interesting workshops, and a screening of the Philippines’ first ever surf film – Archipelago.

Composed of six individuals with expertise in the fields of events, marketing, media, sales, and public relations,Curated Goodness PH was formed with the intention to expose the Metro Manila public to the plethora of unique offerings that local businesses offer.

At the moment, the group is well underway in completing the collection of 80 booths, and the host of workshops that will be present on the weekend of April 11 and 12. So far, merchants range from apparel, footwear, accessories, arts and crafts, and specialty items, to food vendors that provide a wide variety of unique snacks, refreshments, and full meals. On top of the intriguing workshops lined up, a screening of the Philippines’ first ever surf film, Archipelago, will be held in the venue.

Juan Brew, which provides a craft beer brewing kit; Manila Sole, which recycles used tires to create stylish shoes; Current Swell, boasting premium locally-sourced coffee; Fledge Clothing,an expert in stylish men’s clothing and accessories; Lagu, an internationally acclaimed beach-friendly beach-blanket. These are just a few of the intriguing collection of brands that will be present for the Sunny Side Up Bazaar.

These are just two of my favorite items.

As husband and wife, we always make sure that we find time for each other. Specially with the jobs that we have, a dinner, movie date or even an overnight stay at a hotel/motel could really mean a lot to us. We love spending our time just relaxing and not thinking about anything related to work. We have tried Victoria Court and was impressed with their customer service. So, when we got an invite to attend their event last Friday, we immediately confirmed our attendance.

The party started at around 5:00 after touring Victoria Court’s thematic rooms.

Christmas Tree Lighting at Richmonde Hotel Ortigas

We were invited to witness Richmonde Ortigas’ Christmas Tree lightning event last November 20, 2014. Unfortunately, Miguel wasn’t able to join me.

I have been to Richmonde Hotel at Eastwood City and aside from their bigger reception area and chandelier, nothing much differs them from the one in Ortigas when it comes to customer service.

Before the event started, we had a short hotel tour. I fell in love with their indoor pool and day dreamed of holding a private party. It’s also perfect for those who wish to swim but maintain their gluta-white skin.

Amongst the 3 rooms that we visited, I personally love their two-bedroom suite where guests can accept visitors and cook their own meals. Good for a whole family who’d love to experience the luxury living that Richmonde Hotel Ortigas offers.

Looking forward for some happy hour this sweater weather?

Drink all the local beers, featured cocktail drinks, iced tea, or soda you can, with matching tasty bar chow to boot! Priced at only PhP 535nett per person.
Available Mondays to Fridays, except holidays, from 6pm to 9pm at The Exchange.
But make sure to make an early reservation specially during Fridays.

Are you a foodie?

Have a hearty and delectable kick-off to the weekend! Savor enticing offerings at the buffet spread at a very affordable PhP 695nett per person.
Served every Friday from 6pm to 9pm at the Richmonde Café. Children 6 to 12 years get 50% off and those 5 years old and below get to eat for free.

It was a quick yet worthy hotel tour. We headed back to the lounge for the much awaited Christmas tree lighting. We were even entertained by the hotel’s Executive Chef and shortly after, serenaded by one of their staff after the lighting activity which by the way was very lovely and quite exclusive since there were only six bloggers including myself who joined the hotel’s staff along with some of their guests.

Every dish that were served to us was good. But I kinda reserved my tummy’s space for the pastries.

I had tasted too many pastries that I could hardly recall which one is better that the other. The cinnamon donut, choco fudge and their chocolate cakes were my picks. Their Oreo Mint cake is yummy but I find it too minty like you just brushed your teeth.

Here’s a tip: Prices of all the yummy baked goodies at the Lobby Café are slashed 40% thirty (30) minutes before closing time.

Available Mondays to Fridays, from 6:30pm to 7pm; and Saturdays & Sundays, from 3:30pm to 4pm. First come, first served.

Richmonde Hotel Ortigas is located at 21 San Miguel Avenue, Ortigas Center, Pasig City 1600 Metro Manila, Philippines

October 21 is National Coffee Day

I love coffee. So when I found out about Essential Brand’s National Coffee Day Celebration, I immediately signed up even if that would mean slashing at least a good 6 hour of my sleep before I go to work. I spend most of my summer vacations at our house in Silang,Cavite. Our property used to be a mini-coffee farm and some coffee trees remained untouched until late 1990’s when my parents decided to sell a piece of our property. I grew up picking coffee beans and playing on the trees’ branches like a wild monkey. Haha! Yeah, I had a very happy childhood and most of the time I feel sorry when summer vacation’s over because we live in a boring village in the Metro.
I know when it’s already 5:00 am or 3:00 PM because these are the times when I smell freshly brewed coffee at home. One of my childhood dreams is to put up a coffee shop when I grow up – and I am still holding on to it. Haha.

Okay, so enough of me.
Maybe you’re wondering when did National Coffee day started?
This occasion is originally conceived in order to promote Lipa in Batangas as the coffee granary of the Philippines. Recognizing the importance of coffee in the Philippines and in the daily lives of the Filipino people. Essential Brands Group South Each Asia decided to launch a simple celebration to highlight National Coffee Day 2014 and I was really happy to be part of it!

As new members of the Coffee Club, we were treated with overflowing coffee and some pastries. There was also a motivational talk given by Significantologist, Cornel Bongco.
All of these is to highlight and raise awareness on the role of the country as one of the coffee producers along the “coffee belt.”

Essential Brands Group South East Asia also announced the recognition of “I LUV Coffee Express” as one of the rising preferred coffee machines by some of the leading convenience stores as well as other businesses in the country.

EBG SEA is proud to announce its partnership with key business in the Philippines which will begin using I LUV Coffee Express machines this year. Ministop, The Frab Bar in Nueva Ecija, Sky Go Delta Airlines,7-Eleven, Polland Hopia and San Miguel Food Ave. will be among the many places where you can enjoy the exciting taste of I Luv Coffee and savor real coffee flavor produced by an innovative and world class machine.

The flagship brand of Essential Brands Group is I LUV Coffee Express. These premium coffee machines are designed to meet the needs of businesses that don’t fit the traditional cafe market such as convenience stores, service stations, retail outlets, pubs and clubs. I LUV Coffee Express machines
are sourced through exclusive agreements with suppliers in Europe, predominantly Italy through EBG Australia, and are made using the finest components available.

“We are looking forward to an annual event celebrating National Coffee Day and hopefully
collaborating with more companies and people at the same time. This year we are partnering with
bloggers since we know that through them and social media we can relay that we are still part of the
world coffee production map,” says Gabriel Balancio, Business Lead for EBG SEA.

I LUV Coffee Express machines is seen to be deployed in more stores nationwide as a testament of the love of Filipinos for coffee and a service which is fast and convenient.
As we celebrate National Coffee Day, Essential Brands Group South East Asia is committed to preserve and promote the Filipino’s passion and love for coffee. It also has heart to help in empowering the awareness of our role in world’s coffee production.

I went to work last Tuesday happy, because I met new friends and I can proudly say that I was part of the first ever National Coffee Day held in Metro Manila.

Before I actually forget… remember my previous post about EBG’s contest where you can win a brand new coffee maker? The contest is extended until October 28 so, send in your entries!

Looking forward to a bigger National coffee day celebration!

Top 3 Reasons why I am excited to attend Blogapalooza 2014

It’s the time of the year for the most awaited B2B event…Blogapalooza 2014!
Allow me to share with your my Top 3 reasons why I am overly excited to attend this year’s Blogapalooza.

1. Because of Blogapalooza 2013, we met a lot of business owners/marketing people who gave us freebies and some even collaborated with us (the latter we greatly prefer). This year, we are expecting a bigger Blogapalooza. Which means, it will open more doors for bloggers and business owners.

2. When we attended last year’s Blogapalooza, we weren’t that active with the blogosphere yet so, we only met very few familiar faces thus, made the event a little boring and made us decide to go home after after two hours. But this year, Mommy Bloggers Philippines, an online community for mommy bloggers which I am part of is officially one of Blogapalooza’s media partners. Mommies are cooking a meet-up after the event!

3. As you all know, my husband and I met Tim Tayag and Patrick Cruz of Comedy Cartel last year at the Blogapalooza. So, it’s like his first year anniversary with them. But what’s more exciting is that my husband will be performing on stage with the rest of the Point-of-view Stand up comedians of Comedy Cartel!

Looking forward to a more fun Blogapalooza this year!
Have you signed up yet?

Find out how to be part of Blogapalooza 2014 here.

See you there!

Comedy Cartel – The true pioneers of Point-of-view Stand Up Comedy in the Philippines

Comedy Cartel, the true pioneers in point-of-view stand-up comedy in the Philippines produced another quality comedy show last night as they held the 8th Leg of the Laugh and Stack Open Mic showdown.

We invited blogger friends over, so they could witness the type of comedy that Comedy Cartel offers and to help us spread the good news that there are superb comedians waiting to be discovered.

The event was held at Relik Tapas Bar and Lounge at BGC.

Before the show started, we were treated by Relik Tapas Bar and Lounge with sumptuous dishes.

Relik Olla Mia, is a platter with Spicy chicken empanada, garlic mushroom, patatas bravas, baked mussels, pepper pizza rolls and my personal favorite, fried chicken skewers.

Relik Olla Mia, Php. 1,150

Flaming Pork Belly Hamonado, hamonado, baked to it’s perfection placed in a bed of mashed potato and some veggies. I’m not really a fan of sweet meat but if you guys are…this could be a bang for your buck. It’s perfectly plated and it adds excitement when you see your food served at your table with flame.

Flaming pork belly hamonada, Php. 695.00

Chorizig. One of Relik’s most popular dishes. I’ve tried this before and this is really, REALLY good. Who doesn’t love chorizo and sisig?

Chorizig, Php 220.00

Relik’s Nachos. These nachos tastes authentic with 3 dips served for your satisfaction.

Relik Nachos, Php 275.00

I ordered some beer and Relik Spicy Beef barbeque (photo not available) as a token of appreciation for the bloggers whom I invited and showed up despite the short notice.

Comedy Cartel aims to develop fresh stand-up comics by giving them a room/venue with a real audience to practice their materials and hone their comedic skills. At the same time the genius behind the show(Patrick Cruz) spiced it up by turning it into an open mic competition with a cash prize for the champion.
All comics are being coached by veteran comedians right after their sets, and are also undergoing workshops to assure 100% improvement.

The open mic competition will run till the end of the year. They are already on their 8th leg. The audience, professional comedians and the open micers gets to vote who’s gonna be in the top 5 for each leg. The top 15 comics will qualify to hit the stage for the finals in December.

The show started at 9:15 PM with 11 contestants who shared their comedy prowess to the crowd. The house is packed with comedy fans from all over the globe. Relik even turned down 20 walk ins because the place is already a standing room. So if you wanna see the show, you better book your reservation as early as now. The Next leg will be on the 26th of July 2014.

Comedy Cartel is known for producing good comedians like Alex Calleja (who was discovered by Tim Tayag and now writing for a Comedy show at ABS-CBN) and GB Labrador, one of the founders of Comedy Manila. Other talents of Comedy Manila like Victor Anastacio, Red Ollero, Ryan Rems, Ryan Puno, James Caraan and Jeps Gallon also started with Comedy Cartel and are now reaping the fruits of their hard work.

Here are the Top 5 for Laugh and Stack’s 8th Leg.
